The Sod Industry
Our service areas of Florida, Georgia and North & South Carolina are major producers of sod. In Florida, St. Augustine (residential lawns), Bermuda (sports fields and golf courses), Zoysia (upscale landscapes) and Bahia (lower-maintenance option) are most common. Bermuda, Zoysia and Tall Fescue are common in Georgia and the Carolinas.
In sod production, Traveler Hose-Reel Guns and Solid-Set Sprinklers—plus Center Pivots for larger fields—are the primary irrigation systems. High water demand attributed to shallow root systems and surface exposure make these systems the most efficient for medium-sized farming operations.
For large sod farms, Center Pivot Irrigation Systems are more dominate. Center Pivots advantages include more uniform watering with lower labor requirements as well as its automation and efficiency over larger areas.
At Harplyn, our experience navigating hurricane and drought risks, understanding innovations in turf breeding and our understanding of mechanization to mitigate labor shortages position us to design and install the optimal irrigation system. Plus, we recognize that uniformity in growth and appearance are essential—as are automation-driven efficiency and system mobility.
