Solid-Set Irrigation Systems
A Solid Set Irrigation System is one form of overhead irrigation that’s designed to stay in a set location throughout the growing season. As it’s designed for coverage, Solid Set will typically provide uniform, consistent water delivery.
The system includes sprinkler heads and laterals that are installed in fixed positions across the field or orchard. Water is delivered to the laterals via pressurized pipelines that are connected to a pump or mainline.
Though subject to higher initial costs, Solid Set systems save on labor requirements given that no relocation is needed throughout the season. They are also compatible with fertigation and can be used for frost protection if necessary. Conversely, these systems are susceptible to evaporation and wind drift and the pipes, sprinkler heads and mainlines can interfere with equipment needed in the field or orchard.
Common applications include:
- Orchards and vineyards
- Vegetable and field crops
- Turf and pastures, including permanent grasslands
